As water evaporates from the wet bulb, it cools, and the temperature difference between the two provides a direct indication of moisture content in the air.

Other instruments serve different purposes: a barometer measures atmospheric pressure, helping to predict weather changes; a wind vane indicates wind direction; and an anemometer measures wind speed. Each of these instruments is valuable in meteorology but is not designed specifically for measuring humidity, affirming the psychrometer as the correct choice.
